When I was a young boy I wanted to be a zoologist. It was through animals and evolution that I ended up with a passion for cognitive psychology and then got exposed to AI. I think intelligence is much more complex ecological phenomena than our current engineering view. I still watch (and try to read) zoology, and was delighted to come by David Attenborough's Netflix documentary titled Gorilla. The begnning quote was not only beautiful in its own right but also gave support to my own passion of tring to understand machine intelligence:
They possess strength and vigor that far surpasses ours. But when I look at them, it is not their size or power that fills me with awe. It is the intelligence and awareness I see in their eyes when they look back at me. They fill me with an overwhelming sense of wonder and of fear. But not a fear of them, the fear that I, we, may have missed something. Something important. A deeper understanding of what and who they are, and what that might mean for us. David Attenborough
